History of Rubrix
At Rubrix, we delve deep into the heart of winemaking, guided by our distinctive philosophy that embraces tradition, principle, and innovation. Our name, a fusion of “Rubric” and “Brix,” embodies our commitment to excellence and exploration in every bottle.
Drawing inspiration from the rich tapestry of Arizona’s landscapes and terroir, Rubrix is more than just a winery; it’s an invitation to embark on a journey of discovery. Like a well-crafted rubric, we provide a structured framework to appreciate the nuances and complexities of Arizona wines. Each varietal is a testament to our partnership with passionate growers across the state, who share our dedication to quality and adherence to our unique set of guidelines.
Wine, to us, transcends mere refreshment; it is a connection to our land, our craft, and our community. With Rubrix, we invite you to savor the fruits of our labor and join us in celebrating the artistry and heritage of Arizona winemaking. Cheers to a shared passion and the endless possibilities that await in every glass.
An Idea Aged Years In Barrel
Crafting Unique Wines Inspired by Arizona's High Desert
As a winemaker, my journey is deeply rooted in the rugged yet captivating landscapes of Arizona’s high desert. At Rubrix Wines, our mission is to create wines that not only reflect the terroir of this unique region but also embody the essence of its character.
Arizona wines stand apart, thanks to our elevation, ranging from 3000 to 5000 feet, and the arid climate that defines our vineyards. These factors contribute to some of the most extreme diurnal shifts in temperature, nurturing grapes with rich fruit flavors and vibrant acidity. Our vineyards boast diverse soil compositions, from volcanic and limestone to granite, each imparting distinct nuances to our wines.
In the cellar, our philosophy is minimalistic, allowing the natural flavors of the grapes to shine through. We believe that our wines should speak of the land from which they originate, showcasing the beauty and complexity of the desert landscape.
Humble Beginnings to Today
1994
My first wine epiphany
As a busser at a resort in Sedona with a 1985 Roederer Cristal Champagne left behind by a customer. Drank out of a Styrofoam to-go cup.
1999
Getting A Taste
Graduated to waiting tables and then to managing the restaurant. Over the next 9 years years, responsible for managing employees, cost, and more importantly, picking out wines. Got my base level sommelier pin.
2005
Met my mentor
Eric Glomski, owner and winemaker for Page Springs Cellars. Started volunteering during harvest, working in cellar, driving trucks and picking fruit. Fell in love with the process.
2007
My First Vintage
With help from family and some saved money, I made my first wine. A Petite Sirah based unnamed blend (Eventually became The Lotus).
2008
Next steps
Left the restaurant and was hired at Page Springs Cellars full time as Tasting Room Manager.
2009
A Tree is Lit
Wrote a business plan to lure investors to start a brand. On the same day, I met Mitch Levy. Together we co-founded and launched Burning Tree Cellars. Production ramped up.
2014
ASV
Left Page Springs to work full time in the Cellar at Arizona Stronghold Vineyards. Became production manager and assistant winemaker. Won several prestigious awards with wines.
2017
Back to the roots
Returned to Page Springs Cellars as Assistant winemaker . Promoted to head winemaker in the spring of 2019.
2021
A concept reborn
Mitch Levy passed away, leaving a big hole in our hearts and community. Decision was made to end Burning Tree Cellars. The concept of Rubrix Wines was born. First Vintage produced.
2023
New Beginnings
After over 11 years in Old Town Cottonwood, Burning Tree Cellars closes its doors.
2021

About Us
Rubrix Wines is a boutique, family-run wine tasting room created by us, Corey Turnbull & Hayley Meyer, to share our passion for Arizona wines with our friends, family and community.
We both grew up in the Verde Valley and met over 22 years ago. It is where we fell in love, raised our family, and discovered our passion.
For over 15 years, we have also been staking our part in the budding of the Arizona wine industry. We love what we do, and our wines reflect that love and this place we call home.
With myself, as winemaker providing the wine that fills each bottle, Hayley controlling the atmosphere in which it is shared, and our talented daughter Shayla providing art that adorns some of the labels that grace our wines… Rubrix is the epitome of a family business.
